Why choose a basal thermometer?
A regular thermometer will typically measure to 1/10th of a degree (eg. 36.2), whilst a basal thermometer will measure to 1/100th of a degree (eg. 36.24). A 1/100 measurement provides a far more accurate measure of the subtle changes in your basal body temperature.
How does a BBT thermometer work?
Basically, there is a slight temperature drop just before ovulation occurs and then a distinct temperature rise of about 0.40 to 1.0 degrees centigrade after ovulation takes place. By plotting your temperature change during your cycle you will know when you have ovulated.
