Derma rollers are factually proven to aid in helping various skin conditions, such as acne scarring and stretch marks. They are often used to slow down the visible signs of skin aging and have even been used as an effective method to rejuvenate hair growth. Each unit comes with a convenient carry case meaning you aren’t just limited to microneedling yourself at home.
Why Use a Derma Roller?
Collagen Induction Therapy (CIT, also known as dermal rolling or skin needling), is a treatment to improve texture, lines and wrinkles, scarring and skin tightness on the face and body by encouraging the production of collagen. It uses tiny needles or micro-needles on a medical-grade roller to move over the skin to create tiny, evenly-spaced puncture wounds on the skin. This process stimulates the body’s natural collagen production by generating a wound healing response. The roller is much like a fine tattooing needle, so it should cause minimal trauma when creating the microscopic punctures in the skin. By damaging the skin you encourage the body to produce new collagen and elastin, which helps it thicken and plump up.
There is a minimal healing process, although you should expect your skin to take on a red tinge for a short time if you’re using longer lengths (this is largely due to blood being pumped to the area to repair and rebuild the skin).
What Conditions Can Derma Rollers Treat?
Derma rollers are an effective treatment for a myriad of skin conditions. These include acne scars, burns, sagging skin, hyperpigmentation, sun damage, stretch marks and others. Microneedling is also effective at rejuvenating hair growth and slowing the visible signs of aging.
Are These Claims Scientifically Backed Up?
Yes, a number of studies have been done on microneedling over the past few years (and decades even). For instance, you can review a study done on micro-needling for stretch marks here:
*Stretch marks are also referred to as striae distensae
Needle length: 0.20mm, 0.25mm, 0.30mm, 0.50mm, 0.75mm, 1.00mm, 1.50mm, 2.00mm, 2.50mm, 3.00mm
Needle quantity: 540
Needle type: Titanium
Contents: 1 x retail packaging, 1 x derma roller (sealed), 1 x carry case
Make sure you purchase a derma roller with the correct needle length for the condition you are trying to treat. We recommend that you use a maximum needle length of 1.50mm for the face.
- Sterilize the roller head prior to use.
- Firmly (but not aggressively) roll your skin 4 to 8 times in total. Left to right, then top to bottom, then diagonally both ways. There’s also an image on the packaging that shows the pattern you should use.
- Clean your roller once finished.
We recommend that you apply a skin rejuvenation cream before and/or after the treatment. Creams high in vitamin E and generally recommended.
